Whatever happened to bumpers?

Car bumpers I mean. You know, those big rubber things round the edge of a car to stop the paint getting scratched if you were careless enough to gently nudge a shy bollard.

I miss them!

Whose stupid idea was body coloured bumpers? They list them on a car spec as if they were a good thing! In fact they are a pain in the butt. What is the benefit of having painted bumpers eh? I mean, it totally negates the whole point!

I reckon it’s a scam by car manufacturers, who usually run car repair shops at the dealership and who would expect to be the place you go to have scratches repainted. At the very least, they sell the paint to other car repairers.

Maybe a car looks prettier for a little while, until you have that minor altercation with the carefully hidden bollard. Then you either have an ugly scratch or a dented wallet!

Bring back big black rubber bumpers!!! Please pretty please 🙂

I so agree with you. And they crumple like crepe paper, costing so much in repairs. Apparently, the car manufacturers think they look very cool…

Yeah or they want us to think they look cool…

The federal government’s demands for better mpg have forced designers to eliminate bumpers to reduce weight. Basically the feds (i.e., Obama) have increased repair costs to save the planet.
